A view of the memorial from the museum. To make the memorial a reality, it was determined that $500,000 would be needed. $95,000 of donations were attributable to a broadcast of the show “This is Your Life” featuring a senior surviving officer on the Arizona, $40,000 came from the Fleet Reserve Association, and about $65,000 came from an Elvis Presley concert. In the end, the memorial cost slightly over $500,000 to complete. Currently, the Memorial is raising funds to maintain and expand the Memorial. Per their web site, www.pearlharbormemorial.com, “engineers estimate as few as 2 years of useful life remaining before the world's most complete Pearl Harbor museum must be abandoned.”
