Take Me Out to the Ball Game

AM, her dad, and I went to a Giants preseason game yesterday.  I haven't been to a baseball game in years, and never to a preseason game.  It turned out to a be a lot of fun.  We got to Scottsdale Stadium, bought the tickets, and went in to get some snacks (hot dogs and drinks).  We were about an hour early, so we decided to kick back and watch the warm up.  The seats turned out to be about the best you can get.  They were completely shaded and almost directly behind home plate.

While I personally don't have anything invested in the players, AM's dad thought it was pretty cool to see Barry Bonds play in person.  I managed to get some decent pictures of Barry, as well as a couple of the pitchers.  I haven't had much experience with action shots, so I'm not very good at that.  Baseball turned out to be a pretty good sport to practice on.  You generally know where the action is going to be, so you can setup for the shot.  At the same time, you do need to time your shots so you can actually catch the real action (the ball in motion from the pitch, or after it is hit by the bat, etc).  One of the shots I got was immediately after Barry had hit the ball.  It was about 2 feet into a deep fly to middle field, and it looked absolutely stunning.

After we got home we reviewed the pictures.  AM and I decided to get some prints made of the good ones from the game, as well as all of the shots her mom had taken in the Painted Desert and Petrified Forest.  Hopefully they will like them.
